CLASS SCHEDULE

 Intro to Metalsmithing and Jewelry - Level I (Beginner)

Cost: $120.00 (includes all metal for projects and use of studio tools)

Dates: Saturday/Sunday, November 14th & 15th 2015

Time: 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Location: Harmonic Jewel Studio, Inman, SC

Prerequisite: No experience required. Desire to create and have fun is mandatory.

This entry-level workshop is a basic introduction to metal.  You will learn about the properties and form of different metals.  You will begin to learn how to use the tools necessary to manipulate metal into jewelry.  This class focuses on creating wearable pieces with each skill learned.  You will be amazed at the beautiful jewelry you will be able to create after this introductory workshop.

Metal Clay Jewelry for Beginners

Cost: $95 (includes clay for in-class projects, findings, kiln firing and use of studio tools)

Dates: Saturday, November 21st, 2015

Time: 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM

This class is for anyone who is new to working with Metal Clay and would like to spend an exciting day experimenting and learning about this great jewelry making material. Precious metal clay is an almost magical new material - a soft clay that turns to pure metal when fired in a kiln. In this class, you will be introduced to the tools needed to work with metal clay and will create a pair of earrings and a pendant.

Fun with Enameling Weekend Workshop

Cost: $110 (includes metal and enamels and use of kilns, torches and studio tools)

Dates: Saturday December 5th, 2015

Time: Saturday (10:00 AM to 5:00 PM)

Location: Harmonic Jewel Studio, Inman, SC

Prerequisite: Level I (Beginner) Class or equivalent experience approved by instructor.

 

Learn the basic skills of enameling (fusing glass onto metal) in this fast-paced, crazy-amazing class. You’ll fall in love with how simple it is to add color to your jewelry pieces and you’ll be amazed at how many finished pieces you create in just two days.  I’ll teach you all the short-cuts that you’ll never hear about in the books and you’ll learn both kiln firing and torch firing techniques. You’ll learn the skills of sifting, wet-packing, sgraffito, foils, underglazes, stamping and threadwork.  You’ll work with opaques, transparents, rods, millifori and beads.  We will use simple pre-cut metal forms, but you may also choose to bring some of your own prepared metal pieces, etched, textured, precious metal clay pieces to experiment on as well.

Metalsmithing & Jewelry – Level II (Intermediate) 

Coming in January 2016

Cost: $120 (includes metal for in-class projects, findings, and use of studio tools)

Dates: August 8th and August 29th

Time: 9 AM to 4 PM

Location: Harmonic Jewel Studio, Inman, SC

Prerequisite: Level I (Beginner) Class or equivalent experience approved by instructor.

 

This Intermediate Class builds on the knowledge you learned in the entry-level class.  You will focus on expanding your skills to include working with sheet metal and you will expand your knowledge of metalsmithing tools.  You will learn how to use new hand tools and larger machinery such as the rolling mill, the drill press and micro torches and large torches.  You will learn how to saw, cut, pierce, forge, form and solder sheet metal and wire.  Additionally, you will learn the art of sanding, finishing and polishing your pieces.  You will create your own designs in this class and work from your sketches. We will use copper, sterling silver, argentium, brass and bronze.

Metalsmithing & Jewelry – Stonesetting (Advanced Level Class)

Location: Harmonic Jewel Studio, Inman, SC

Prerequisite: Level II (lntermediate) Class or equivalent experience approved by instructor

 

This Advanced Class focuses on stone-setting.  You will learn five different methods of setting stones into your jewelry designs.  You will bezel set a cabochon, tube set a faceted stone, prong set a faceted or cabochon stone, tab set a freeform stone and problem solve and create your own unique setting for a uniquely challenging stone/found object/artifact.  You will learn how to use the unique set of tools and burs necessary in setting stones successfully and you will improve and expand your piercing, sawing, filing, sanding and finishing skills.  You will create your own designs in this class and work from your sketches.  We will use copper for the projects, but you will have the opportunity to fabricate your pieces in sterling silver, sterling filled or argentium silver if you wish at an additional cost.
